ParticipantOnce again, nevermind. I determined that if I try to selectively pull files from the Github web interface in my Firefox, it saves them in an altered format, and not the original format. I ended up re-downloading a new ZIP file of the entire master build and was able to load all the DXF files just fine after that.

ParticipantI’m having trouble opening the OpenHW_Universal-XPlate.dxf file under the master branch in LibreCAD, is anyone else having the same issue with this file?

ParticipantI used copper pipe from homedespot aka (homedepot)
and then cut to length. The copper is shiny and smooth. It cost I think $16 with tax. You will have left over pipe if you use the current Morgan design dimensions or you can make your Morgan bigger I guess to use the extra pipe. The only thing I can think of is the (longer) you make the pipes, the longer the PVC, threaded rod, lead screw, and smooth rods need to be. To me this means then the system would tend to flex and not be as accurate.

1. Would I get more accuracy if I use a 0.9 degree motor for the Z axis and would this cause problems?
2. I’m also thinking about making the extruder motor also 0.9 degrees. What are your thoughts on this?

Install the Z lead screw motor coupler piece onto the lead screw, using two M3 bolts and nuts. Insert the M3 captive nuts into the coupler, and install the M3 grub screws.

ParticipantThanks Quentin, sorry to be so thick headed. I guess my next question is how is the lead screw connected to the motor? Is it done my pully or gears?
It sounds like its done by gears, but I don’t see anything in the BOM that would indicate what kind of gear would get attached to the lead screw.
Am I missing something?

So I’m going the route of the 8mm x 330mm lead screw verses the special setup you’ve done, because of sourcing issue for that part. It’s unclear to me though at the moment how this is being driven mechanically. Can you offer any insight as to how the stepper is attached to the lead screw or is it self apparent once I print the parts? Could you upload a picture of the back and underside of the RepRap Morgan for a fully functioning machine?
I guess I’m having problems visualizing how this is going to work.

ParticipantI’m guessing by the X/Y gear sizes, I’d say roughly a meter of GT2 belt, 2mm pitch, 6mm wide. Cut the belt into 2 even strips and tuck the rest inside the gears as he has pictured. I found a source for a GT2 16 tooth pully here (https://www.lulzbot.com).
The question I have is how the lead screw is turned?

Not sure if this is already answered, but what should the size/scale of the DXF files be? When I import them into Sketchup, they come out to something like 18-19 ft or in meters something like 5791 mm. What should they be for both the OpenHW_Universal-XPlate and platform_cutting?

ParticipantAlso, I’m wondering what the pitch of the thread should be on the 5/16 thread, they have 5/16-18, 5/16-24, and 5/16-32, which I’m taking is the pitch size. I was going to use 5/16-24, would that work or do I need a finer pitch, such as 5/16-32?

I noticed in the BOM that you have omited the GT2 Belt and Pulley, is that on purpose or just an omission? Also, wondering which one should be used?
