z mount bracket and anti-backlash spring question

Is the anti-backlash hex chamber on the z mount bracket supposed to be hollow? Or to put it another way, should the anti-backlash spring press on both the top and bottom hex nuts, with nothing in between?

I’m trying to resolve the z axis issue i’m having, and it seems like a backlash problem.

The Z mount bracket that was printed for me has plastic dividing the top and bottom of the chamber. It’s about 10mm from the bottom of the chamber and it’s separating the spring from the bottom nut. BTW, I’m using threaded rod until I can get a better lead screw.

The divider should remain intact. The bracket should be pushed down onto the bottom nut by the top nut and the spring. Thus, the top nut should sit relatively loosely in the cavity, while the bottom nut could sit snuggly.

Thanks Q! That’s exactly as I have it setup now. I was asking because I am having a devil of a time with the z axis. When I calibrate the z axis it seems to skip steps because when I try to print it raises the bed way too high and each layer prints over itself.

I wasn’t sure if it was a backlash issue, or something else. Now that I know my anti-backlash setup is correct I can look elsewhere for the problem.
