Good day everyone. I’ve just taken my first step into building a RepRap by ordering a Arduino Mega and some basic starter components from Micro Robotics in Centurion to get a feel for Arduino programming.

I’ve hopped between a few RepRap designs until I settled on the Morgan due to its innovative design, low costs and being of proudly South African origin 🙂

I have a few questions regarding sourcing in parts in the Pretoria area, which quentin will probably be able to answer
      1) Where to get a RAMPS board? I see micro robotics has the bare board, but not the surface mounted components. I am also not sure if I wont to solder the first board myself, especially the SMDs.
      2) Where to get the printed parts? CAD house was my first thought

I will source the rest as times goes on

      Hi Danie,

I was under the impression that Robotics had a semi populated board as well, that includes the surface mount components.

Printed parts could be sourced from the growing hacker community in Centurion. Cad house prints are professional, and while the quality of the prints should be good, the cost is generally out of reach for the typical hobbyist.

Why not come check out what we do at House4Hack on Tuesdays from about 18:00 @ 4 Burger avenue, Lyttelton Manor, Centurion.

I was at Micro Robotics yesterday, bought stepper motors, drivers, pulleys and belt. They are out of stock on the semi populated ramps at the moment, but should get some in in the near future. In the mean time I’ll start building my mechanical frame and play around with the Arduino.

Thanks Quentin, I will make a plan to come by!

      Hi Quentin,

Are you based in the Pretoria region? Could you possibly help me out with the printed parts? You’ll be a legend.

      Hi Quentin

Did you receive my email regarding the printed parts? I am quite keen to start assembly on my morgan. How is the OpenHardware Gen7 board working for you, compared to the RAMPS?

I did get your mail… I believe I was writing you a response. Will just check if I completed it.

I do not have a lot of experience in using the openhardware board. I have one that I set up on a morgan before, and the test print did complete successfully. It was on a cold printbed though, since the OH board does not have an onboard mosfet for the headbed.

RAMPS is more expensive, but tried and tested all over the world.
