Staying true to the <$100 theme. I’ve been inspired to try a Lego / K’nex hybrid of the Morgan. I plan to get to the point where everything is generally working and calibrating is the only thing left.

My first step is to spend about $35 on 1x motor, driver, board and perhaps a breadbasket starter kit. I haven’t really played with electronics for years.

I’ve been looking at the Morgan Lite BOM:

I found the Marlin github tree. Is there anything else I need to have before I can do my 1st step and have a motor spin using the Marlin firmware. Are there instructions on how to do this other than the draft instructions found on the site? I imagine I’ll be depending on the community for help tackling the learning curve…but I figure I am the target Audience the Morgan is meant for…outside of living in a different country that is 😉 thanks for the time. Chad.

I don’t want to hijack or advertise here too much, but I’m keeping a build log at http://reprapramblings.blogspot.com. Currently I’m about at the stage of testing electronics step by step. I’m waiting for srepper drivers but should have them in a few days.

Maybe have a look at the RAMPS rest software rather than the full Marlin as there are checks (e.g. nozzle temperature) that will block the rest of the operation, unless you want to simulate that signal or connect an actual hotend and run it at temperature.

@Maconbot: Remember that you would need the armlevel branch of Marlin on the qharley repository. You need the Morgan SCARA firmware…

As Hein said, use the RAMPS 1.4 test firmware to check it before using. I have solved many issues using that firmware.

Thanks guys! Any problem using a Teensylu rather than the standard RepRap board…seems the cheapest option.

For fun this weekend I made a Lego + K’nex Mendel Strap. Hoping building that will allow me to start wrapping my head around a similar Morgan setup.
