Well after mountains of reading and trying to figure out all the finer details I am finally ready to step into the world of 3D Printing.
I will be starting with gathering all the materials needed to build my own and first 3d printer. And you guessed it. Its going to be a Morgan. Why?
Well being from Cape town I decided to make something that originated from here in lovely ZA.
I work on the IT Infrastructure side of things, and I tend to geek out slightly by gadgets, so this would be the best project to keep me busy over the next couple of months.
My biggest concern/set-back/damper about this project is financing. However, I hope to create/build a Morgan for under R1000 if possible and will definitely improvise where I can to save some bucks.
Anyone who can help out in the Cape Town / Durbanville area around? Please drop me a message. I would love to meet up with some fellow enthusiasts from the CPT area.
I just also want to send a huge thank-you to Mr. Q for this website and the useful info. I cant wait to get this project started. I will also create a small blog and update it with my progress.

Cost of 3d printing is much lower than it used to be, but still not R1000…
That said, The Morgan frame can be about as low cost as you can get, with fewer expensive linear elements than any other reprap printer out there.
The expensive bit, that you will have to start saving for, is the electronics. RAMPS is a good safe choice, but soon we will have a new board a available, make in south africa as well, and based on the amazing smoothieboard.
